KY Peer Support Network Project
Responsibilities: Coordinate statewide project to increase opportunities for learning and friendships between students with and without disabilities; manage regional trainings, including presenting and logistics; develop training materials and adapt trainings for various audiences; provide technical assistance to pilot site schools; present at relevant conferences.
Experiences: I have had many jobs in the disability field, none more important than being a mom to a young man with autism (including homeschooling for a time)! After my first career as a City Planner, I stayed home while my kids were young and had a home based business in graphic design and word processing. Following my son's diagnosis, I have worked as Parent Coordinator for Fayette County Public Schools (liaison between school system and parents of students with disabilities), Inclusion Coordinator for the Arc of Kentucky, Event Planner for Autism Society of the Bluegrass, and Community Living Support Worker for people with disabilities.
Reason: I became involved in the disability world following the 1996 diagnosis of my wonderful son, Jake, with autism spectrum disorder.
