The Human Development Institute is dedicated to providing interdisciplinary opportunities for student learning and leadership in a variety of disability-focused areas. Every year, staff from HDI supervise undergraduate and graduate level students in practicums and internships, certificate programs, coursework, and more. - Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities
- Practicums and Internships: HDI is an approved practicum site for undergraduate and graduate level social work students at the University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky University. Depending on program requirements, we may also have opportunities available for students in special education, rehabilitation counseling, occupational therapy, and other related disciplines.
Historically, our practicum students and interns have worked on projects like UK College and Career Studies Program – KSHEP, HDI Center for Assistive Technology Services, HDI Summer Leadership Experience Camp, and Merge. We also have a variety of research-focused learning opportunities available.

Practicum students interested in completing a Spring 2026 placement, please contact Dr. Womack by 12/1/25. We are also accepting practicum inquiries for multiple Summer and Fall 2026 placements, including the Summer Leadership Experience Camp (summer) and College and Career Studies Program (fall).
