Responsibilities: In addition to PI responsibilities of budget and scope of work, I work in research and development of statewide alternate assessment. This includes facilitation of stakeholder meetings such as item development, bias and sensitivity review, content and alignment, standard setting and validation. Stakeholder training development and review and system planning. I also work to provide reports to KDE to assist in their peer review response.

Experiences: I started in the field of education as a foreign language teacher. Upon moving to Kentucky, I changed disciplines and taught students with moderate to severe disabilities. While in the classroom, I was named teacher of the year for my educational cooperative and served as a member of the Kentucky Alternate Assessment Advisory Board. During my tenure on the advisory board, I met staff from the HDI Inclusive Large Scale Standards and Assessment (ILSSA) and KAAP groups, who asked that I and my school participate in an Inclusive Education Grant. This grant promoted the inclusion of all students into the general education classroom. Since arriving at HDI in 2003, I have worked not only on KAAP, but also on Enhanced Assessment Grants and General Supervision Enhancement Grants as a team member on national projects, including The National Center and State Collaborative. My work at HDI has allowed me to work with a multitude of states with regard to their alternate assessments including; Minnesota, New Jersey, Maryland, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, South Carolina, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the District of Columbia, Louisiana, Florida, and of course Kentucky.

Reason:

Research: My research interests include educational policy and its effects on families, post-secondary transition for individuals with significant cognitive disabilities, and how familial involvement impacts successful transition.

Interests: Swimming, hiking, spending time with family and watching movies.
