HDI 50th Anniversary Celebration Page

Check out all our upcoming anniversary celebration activities on the HDI 50th Anniversary Celebration microsite, which includes information about upcoming celebration events and spotlights on members of our HDI family throughout the years. Our friends, partners, and the public are invited to join HDI in celebrating this momentous occasion as we host two events: a Run, Walk, Stroll 5K on Saturday, October 12 and a 50th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, November 2. We will be posting and sending announcements with more as the dates approach.

This year marks the 50th anniversary for the University of Kentucky’s Human Development Institute, a significant event for our campus community, and for the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families in Kentucky and beyond.  The Human Development Institute (HDI) is Kentucky’s University Center on Disability.  The Institute is a major unit of the University, administered through the Office of the Vice President for Research.  Established in 1969, HDI began in UK’s Department of Pediatrics. Now, a half century later, the Institute generates roughly $23 million in external funding per year, with approximately 235 staff, with work impacting every county of the state, with several of our projects having a national, and even international impact.

HDI promotes the inclusion, independence and contributions of people with disabilities through education, research and evaluation, and the power of the voices of people with disabilities. HDI brings people together to creatively answer complex questions that help everyone grow, thrive and age in place in their communities.  On campus, HDI works to train new leaders in our field, through a University Lecture Series, Graduate Certificate in Developmental Disabilities, and Undergraduate Certificate in Universal Design, taught in collaboration with faculty across UK Colleges.

Please forward this save-the-dates announcement to your classmates, students, and colleagues from the department and post this link (link to web site) to your social media accounts.
