HDI Receives 2018 University of Kentucky Inclusive Excellence Award in the Department/Unit category!

HDI was recently selected as a recipient of the 2018 University of Kentucky Inclusive Excellence Award in the Department/Unit category in appreciation for the institute’s dedication and passion to advances in diversity and inclusion, which aligns with the University’s Strategic Plan.

HDI’s commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion through campus and community leadership and engagement was recognized at the University of Kentucky Faculty Awards ceremony, Thursday, April 19. All HDI staff were invited to attend the ceremony, and HDI’s Executive Director, Kathy Sheppard-Jones, accepted this significant award on behalf of the institute.

“I congratulate all of HDI. This award speaks to the dedication and impact of HDI staff and students. Although our state faces huge challenges, recognition such as this gives us an opportunity to share the power of our work and the importance of collaborating to help build a more inclusive world. This is a great recognition by the University community, as HDI continues to promote the inclusion, independence and contributions of people with disabilities and their families throughout Kentucky, and builds strong inclusive communities!” —Kathy Sheppard-Jones

“The work of your unit in the area of inclusive excellence is to be commended.  It is our hope that your unit will serve as an example for others to emulate in their work, classrooms, research, and lives.” Sonja Feist-Price, D. Rh., Ph.D.Vice President for Institutional Diversity and G. T. Lineberry, PhD., Associate Provost for Faculty Advancement
