Dr. Elaine Eisenbaum Joins HDI as New Training Director

HDI is pleased to welcome Dr. Elaine Eisenbaum as the training director at the Human Development Institute (HDI), Kentucky’s University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). As training director, Dr. Eisenbaum is responsible for overseeing the interdisciplinary graduate certificate program in Developmental Disabilities and is also working to roll out the undergraduate certificate program in Universal Design that will begin in fall of 2017.

Dr. Eisenbaum brings extensive experience in the disability field to her work.  She received her BA in special education from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master’s in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis, and a PhD in social work at The University of Texas at Austin. Prior to joining the HDI team, Dr. Eisenbaum served as the Associate Director at the University of Texas at Austin UCEDD, Texas Center for Disability Studies.

Dr. Eisenbaum has also worked as the Director of Advocacy and Operations at The Arc of Northern Virginia, and as a Program Director at L’Arche Greater Washington DC, both nonprofits serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Outside of work, Dr. Eisenbaum has been a unified partner with Special Olympics for over 11 years, playing on teams that include people with and without intellectual disabilities.

I am very excited to join the passionate team at HDI and I’m looking forward to working with HDI staff, students, community members and our many partners as we generate innovative solutions for achieving a more inclusive world.
