Elizabeth Biggs receives the Maurice A. Clay Award as outstanding graduate senior in the College of Social Work.

Elizabeth Biggs, who works as an HDI practicum student under the supervision of Bev Harp, received the Maurice A. Clay Award which recognized her as the outstanding graduate senior of the College of Social Work.

Below is a description of the award:

“The University of Kentucky Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society, established the Maurice A. Clay Awards over twenty-five years ago to recognize the outstanding graduating senior in each academic college at UK, as selected by the Dean or the Dean’s representative.  The basic criterion is exceptional leadership, and service to the student’s college while maintaining a strong academic record.

ODK recognizes superior scholarship, leadership and exemplary character.  The Clay Awards are one way in which our national Leadership Society can bestow on graduating seniors a ‘Mark of High Distinction’.”

I’m extremely honored to have been chosen for this award. I am passionate about service and have loved giving back to UK during my time as a student. As a student, I was given the unique opportunity to work at the Visitor Center where I get to recruit future wildcats every week. Whether it is giving a general tour for the university or a tour specifically for incoming social work students, I have loved being able to share the ways I have grown academically, personally, and professionally at UK and in the College of Social, and I love sharing the ways UK can have that same positive impact on the prospective students. I am extremely proud to be a wildcat. I frequently weave in fun facts about UK into my everyday conversations. I am honored to be recognized for my contributions to the university and to the College of Social Work, and I look forward to continuing giving back to the university once I graduate. —Elizabeth Biggs

Working with Elizabeth this semester has been a great experience. Her research skills and attention to detail have benefited the project (ISAW) immensely. Her openness to new ideas and her ability to engage meaningfully with people from diverse backgrounds will make her an excellent social worker. Elizabeth will be greatly missed by her friends and colleagues at Coldstream. We all wish her the very best in her life and career! —Bev Harp

Elizabeth is involved with the Visitor Center (where she is the co-director of the Wildcat Ambassador Student Organization), the Christian Student Fellowship, Lewis Honors College, Southland Christian Church Serve the City, and she serves as a mentor for two third graders at Breckenridge Elementary School.
