HDI 50th Anniversary Spotlight on Morgan Turner

HDI means a lot to me. When I graduated school in 2014 I didn’t know what I would do with my days, so having a job keeps me involved. I like the people I work with, and I like making my own money.
—Morgan Turner, HDI Health and Wellness Education Assistant

How did you come to know HDI?
I was a participant in the first pilot of the Health Partners class being run by the Health and Wellness Initiative. Once I finished the class, I liked it so much I asked if I could volunteer, and they asked if I would like to work for a paycheck instead!
How long have you been at HDI and what is your role?
I worked part time with the Health Partners project starting in January of 2016, and I started working full time in October 2018. So really, I’ve been working for HDI for 3 and a half years as a health education assistant.
During your time at HDI, of which accomplishments are you most proud?
I really enjoyed making a comic book. We had a friend of HDI who wanted us to be a part of his super hero comic book, Disability Don’t Mean Can’t Man, Busting Down Barriers. It’s about overcoming obstacles no matter what your ability is. I like that because there are real people in it with real barriers people face today.
Looking back, can you please share with us a fun or fond moment you had at HDI?
I love every time we travel around Kentucky for presentations and other events with people I work with. I like to travel, and I like getting to know people.
Do you have any advice you would like to share with current and future staff and students at HDI?
Continue to work hard and find a way to make work fun and exciting. Make the most of it!
What do you think the future holds for HDI?
I believe HDI’s only going to get bigger and help more and more people. I feel like more people are learning about HDI all the time and benefiting from their services.
