Dr. Page shares, “Let’s talk about young children and screen time. How much is too much? Should we set limits? What works and what doesn’t? We are looking forward to lots of discussion. Bring your questions and we’ll share ideas.”
Much has been written in both research and popular media about the positive and negative effects of technology and “screen time” on young children. This seminar will review recent data on the use of technology in early childhood and interactions between technology use and child development. Presenters will discuss expert recommendations from major early childhood professional associations regarding managing screen time and effective strategies to encourage healthy social interactions and facilitate language development. Finally, the use of universally designed technology to foster communication, learning and social interactions by children with disabilities will be explored.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify potential positive and negative impacts of exposure to technology or “screen time” for children.
- Participants will be able to list at least 5 strategies for managing screen time with young children to reduce negative effects on social interaction and health.
- Participants will be able to discuss and locate strategies for effectively using technology to facilitate learning for all children.
CEU’s are pending for Rehabilitation Counseling and clock hours are approved for Early Care & Education.
